As Covid-19 lock down continues, my sons and I have been busy in the kitchen. As long as we can get our hands on flour and eggs! There are so many skills that they are working out without even realising:
– developing hand strength
– bilateral coordination (i.e. using both hands in a coordinated fashion)
– organisational skills with obtaining and preparing ingredients
– numeracy/maths with measuring and weighing
– kitchen safety when using the hob or oven
– hygiene skills
– following instructions
– safety skills when using tools and handling hot items

Searching for recipes online also helps them to practise typing on the keyboard. Not everything is turning out as expected, but we are having fun trying new things. And it offers a break from some of their home-schooling lessons. They have developed so much more confidence and ability in the kitchen, which will serve them for life!
